5 Must-Attend Events of the Nantucket Island Season

Every year, visitors from around the globe come to enjoy the unique culture, history, and charm of Nantucket Island, which is located about 30 miles off the coast of Cape Code in Massachusetts. For those of you interested in exploring this vibrant and engaging community, we’ve put together a list that includes some of the top events of ‘the season’ on Nantucket Island.


Nantucket Wine and Food Festival May 17-21, 2017    nantucket photo booth

For the past 21 years, the restaurants and hotels of the island have played host to renowned winemakers and chefs from around the world. This year’s main event, the ‘Grand Tastings’, takes place at the waterfront White Elephant Hotel on Saturday and Sunday May 20-21st. Over 150 wineries will be participating, and select artisans will be on hand with exhibitions of their creations. You can also enjoy an extravaganza of flavors and fun when 40 wineries and 40 restaurants pair their masterpieces at the Harbor Gala on May 18th.


Nantucket Film Festival June 21-26, 2017

Passes to this premiere cinematic event are already on sale, and as it moves into its third decade, the festival continues to attract talented screenwriters from all corners of the earth. Previous winners have even gone on to Academy Award nominations, including the films 20 Feet From Stardom and What Happened Miss Simone?. Last year’s event featured nearly 100 films, and the Late Night Storytelling and Screenwriters Tribute are among the highlights of this artist-focused affair. The festival also includes a number of engaging social bashes, like Saturday Night at the Museum and the Filmmakers Party.

Nantucket Comedy Festival July 12-15, 2017

This annual laughfest will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2017, and all proceeds from the shows benefit the nonprofit Stand Up & Learn. The kids who participate in this program kickoff the festival with original material that they both write and perform. There’s also a fun ladies’ night, national headliners, and a New York vs. Boston comedy slam. Past entertainers have included Peter Farrelly and Tom Cotter, and the 2017 bash is sure to showcase some of the funniest comedians in the land. All the fun takes place at the Nantucket Dreamland, 17 South Water St. You can capture all your uproarious memories with one of our photo booths that include funny custom backgrounds.


Boston Pops on Nantucket August 12, 2017

Beautiful Jetties Beach is the sight of this annual concert featuring the Boston Pops’ Esplanade Orchestra. The ensemble’s performance includes a special surprise guest, and proceeds from this magical night benefit the nonprofit Nantucket Cottage Hospital. General admission tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for children, and free for kids under age 5. Come out for an entertaining night of music, fireworks, and community fun!


Nantucket Race Week & Opera House Cup August 12- 20, 2017

The culmination of the summer season on Nantucket Island is, of course, the famous sailing competitions. This gold-level certified Regatta attracts both grand prix level sailors, as well as contestants who are just dipping their feet in the water. Competitions include the IOD Celebrity Invitational, the Women’s Regatta, and of course the historic Opera House Cup Regatta that features all-wooden, single-hull boats. “On-land” activities include parties, a parade, and a celebrity buffet to complement the 9 days of heart-stopping races.

Here are Some Handy Tips for Planning a Wedding

Planning a Wedding” could be the title of a whole collection of books on the topic. Fortunately, there’s no need to get a degree in event planning or take out a second mortgage to enjoy a wonderful marriage ceremony. Here’s a list of steps to keep in mind while preparing for the big day:


  • Brain Storm: Browse wedding-related magazines and web sites, ask friends for advice, or simply take pen and paper and jot down the features you think a perfect wedding should have. This will help the event to take shape in your mind before it actually occurs.
  • Decide on a Budget: Estimate the finances you have on hand as well as expected contributions from family and friends. Remember that a beautiful wedding doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Even simple events can lead to a lifetime of cherished memories.
  • Decide who will be in the wedding party. Most people pick long-time friends or close family members. You might need to cross a few people off the list if you have too many candidates from which to choose. Be sure to take everyone’s feelings into account, but remember that, in the end, the wedding is all about the bride and groom. So their wishes should be most important.
  • Create the guest list. It’s important to match the list to the chosen venue. Small, intimate settings call for a select group of cherished acquaintances. Larger facilities can accommodate sizable parties. In any case, make sure you’re comfortable having the people on your list at the event. Everyone should be able to relax and enjoy pleasant company  during the wedding and the reception.

Beautiful ceremonies have been held at outdoor parks, along the shore, and even in restaurants. Remember, however, that some venues may require a little innovation.   • Hire the photographer and/or videographer. You can find qualified professionals in your local Yellow pages or on the Net, but you might have better luck asking friends and relatives for recommendations.
  • Set up a wedding registry: You can also create online registries at sites like Make sure everyone knows how to view the list of suggested gifts.
  • Create a Website: If you have the required tech skills or know someone who does, you might want to create a wedding web site. This need not be elaborate. It’s possible to create wonderful sites using drag-and-drop tools from companies like Godaddy and
  • Choose & send Invitations: Choose the invitations and send them out well in advance of the ceremony. You can also print the invitations yourself on a home-based printer if the guest list is small.
  • Cake: Order the cake or make arrangements for a talented acquaintance to handle the job.
  • Entertainment:  Hire a DJ, band, photobooth rental or other entertainment if applicable.
  • Food: Choose a caterer or make plans to provide food yourself.
  • Find an officiant: This can be an ordained clergyperson or, if you prefer, a judge, justice of the peace, or even a cruise ship captain. It can also be a close friend or relative who acquires the necessary credentials online. Just make sure the choice conforms to your state laws.
  • Licenses: Square away marriage licenses and other legal matters well before the wedding day.
  • Plan a Party! Plan a bachelor or bachelorette party if desired.
